Whilst London was patting its back this week on putting its 1000th electric bus into service (around 20% of the fleet) Holland is knee deep in electric buses. The country is roughly a third of the size of the UK in most respects, but had over a thousand electric buses in service in 2020. Models used are the locally built VDL Citea, Heuliez, Van Hools, BYD and local newcomer Ebusco. Pictured on Thursday leaving Groningen Station is an Ebusco 2.2 a modelwith a range of up to 550km depending on specification. This bus is 354 in the Qbuzz fleet a company which is an offshoot of Dutch Railways, a bit like Abellio was in the UK. They currently hold bus franchises in South Holland, Utrecht, Drenthe and Groningen. Their operations in Groningen under the "streek" brand were worked by electric Ebuscos like 354, Van Hools and Heuliez artics, the latter on prominent Park & Ride services. On the diesel side there were both new model rigid and old model articulated Mercedes Citaros, but they were in the minority.
