Returning to London on Wednesday morning one sight I was not expecting was to see one of the Wright bodied Volvo B9TL buses of Blue Triangle, WVL339 (LX59DDY), hitherto deployed on routes EL1 and EL2 out of Ilford and uniquely painted in a red and orange livery. The X26 had been in the safe hands of Epsom Buses with a smart fleet of LT red Mercedes Citaros. The newly awarded contract to Go-Ahead called for doubledeckers, and the Citaros were certainly struggling to cope with demand. Whether pots of paint will be called for in the near future or if the X26 is to become effectively route branded will doubtless soon be revealed. Certainly the incongrous "East London Transit" branding needs removal uness the X26 is being extended to Barking! Meanwhile back in East London New Routemasters have replaced the Volvos on the first New Routemaster routes not to penetrate the city. No orange splashes: they are in plain red.
