United Counties, now subsumed into Stagecoach East and Arriva the Shires, would have been 100 years old this year. Back in the seventies and early eighties it had the task of serving the expanding new city of Milton Keynes. Here Leyland National 2 583 (NRP583V) is seen outside the now closed Blethchley Bus Depot. For privatisation United Counties lost two parts of its operations to new companies. Milton Keynes became the province of Milton Keynes Citybus and the Luton operations formed into Luton & District. In the nineties the reduced United Counties became loyal supporters of SHOWBUS at Woburn Abbey and have continued to support the event through Stagecoach. To celebrate their centenary we will have a special United Counties lien up at SHOWBUS in September.
