Seen at Blecktown Bus Station on Wednesday is Sydney's - for now - only modern doubledecker service both (with a roof). The bus is confined to Monday to Friday operation on the T75 along the T-way busway to Rouse Hill and back, appropriately operated by Busways as their 1048. The bus and driver take a break for lunch! At no time is the capacity of the vehicle challenged and it would have been possible to operate the journey I rode on around 1130 with a car! Apparently more appropriate work is at hand once trees and overhead power lines have been raised to give clearance. The bus features a reasonable behind the driver front seat akin to the ADL Enviro400, but the corresponding front seat upstairs is incredibly close to the large single piece windscreen and the air conditioning struggles to combat the solar gain effect through the glass. The temperature throughout the rest of the bus was fine and it gave a smooth and quiet ride. One unusual feature is a long nearside bench seat between the doors. The interior is trimmed in cooling blue tones, but finish is a little spartan. More pictures will follow in out new Busways gallery later this year.
