THUNDERBIRD ARE GO! This 7000-series Eurotram, looking like something out of the TV series Thunderbirds was seen in Milan, near the Duomo Cathedral on Friday. These were a batch of 26 entirely low floor trams, built in seven sections for ATM by Adtranz in 2000. Similar trams were also built for Strasbourg. Though Milan's started to enter service in 2000, delivery was not completed until 2002, delays partially caused by Adtranz being taken over by Bombardier. This means that tram 7024 seen here was almost certainly built by Bombardier. Little seems to have been done to it since and the interiors are quite depressing, the length of the tram encouraging teenagers to smoke, and doubtless indulge in other anti-social behaviour towards the rear of the tram. Despite their futuristic design They look neglected inside and suffer in onsequence. Their length and the constrictions posed by the narrow city streets means they are confined to route 15 between the Duomo and Rozzano and no more such trams have been purchased.
