Over ten years since the Bombardier E class trams were introduced in Melbourne, the first has appeared in an all over advert livery. For those who follow our Yarra Trams gallery, all over adverts abound in the fleet and we have hundreds of colourful images of tram ads. However when the E class was introduced in 2013 it was stated that none would be wrapped as an avertisement. They first entered service on the prestigious 96 route linking East Brunswick, via the City to the beachside St Kilda resort. The C2 class of five Citadis trams, originally intended for Mullhouse in France and leased to Melbourne in yellow Mullhouse livery and nicknamed Bumblebees stayed on the 96. As a result the Bumblebees became the advertisement trams on the route. So it was a surprise to see 6041 appear as an advert for Melbourne's Midsumma Festival, a poor man's alternative to Sydney's Mardi Gras. It is seen at the Acland Street terminus in St Kilda, with connecting space rocket services! Around Easter time 6004 appeared in a lilac scheme for the Good Friday Appeal. Ten years on the E class are beginning to look tatty. Even on relatively new trams the yellow markings around the doors are flaking off, so advert wraps are enhancing their appearance!
