In Auckland in April 2000 were some good old Bristol VR buses, including some transferred from UK Stagecoach fleets in a somewhat crazy livery and used on Auckland downtown tours - here is Stagecoach Auckland 125 (XL1789). The bus was new as East Midland 216 (KWA216W) and saw service with A1 services and Bluebird in Scotland before arriving in New Zealand in 1997.

Stagecoach Auckland 124 (XP6840) is in the background as a VR with 'cherished' registration JTB NZ passes in the opposite direction. The red VR belongs to Scenic and is in a scheme for the Japanese Tourist Board. The Stagecoach VR has an identical history to 125, starting off as East Midland 215 (KWA215W), however it started work in Wellington. In contrast the Scenic VR started life with Crosville, passing to Crosville Wales, arriving on New Zealand South Island in 1997. It was used in Auckland for two years before heading south to Redbus in Christchurch until 2004 then back to Auckland for use by Robbie's Fun Bus Tours.

Former Trent 832 (WRC832S) joined Auckland Exporer Bus in 1999 and wore United Airlines livery for some years and in 2004 Malaysia Airlines advert livery before gaining the fleet's yellow colours.

 Back in August 1992 United Airlines livery was on this austere Leyland Atlantean on Auckland City Tours at a time when the city services were still in the hands of the Auckland authorities, trading as Yellow Bus, but the United stripes in red and orange were a taste of the Stagecoach livery to come! |
 In Easter 2005 what were thought to be the Stagecoach VR deckers were touring the city in Malaysian Airlines livery. This one, though is thought to be the former Trent/United Airlines bus and is seen by the Ferry Building. The Auckland Explorer Bus operates as a "HOP ON HOP OFF" sightseeing tour visiting Auckland's big fourteen attractions, with full commentary on board. The service was run by tour operator Jasons in 2005 and the doubledeckers were supplemented by some MCW MetroRiders. |
