Reading Buses Optare Metrodeck 899 Green Line
Reading has trialled a number of buses on the service and has settled on the diesel powered Optare Metrodeck. This is the demonstrator, YJ16DFG, numbered 899 for its stay. It is seen in Slough Bus Station bound for Legoland in August 2019. When on trial earlier it was in blue livery. The new buses were due early in 2020 and 899 was expected to stay around for a further six months once they do. They will be the first diesel Metrodecks to enter service, all electric versions beating them into service in London and York. Reading has also altered the services in light of operational experience initially terminating alternate journeys at Heathrow Terminal 5. With other of their services now serving Heathrow, the Green Line has reverted to its Victoria terminus on all trips. Early and late trips start and finish at Reading, effectively recreating a semblance of the London A and B services operated by the old Thames Valley Traction Company.
