In 1966 BEA started to acquire a fleet of forward entrance Routemasters for its service between the West London Airport terminal and Heathrow. The buses replaced special AEC Regal IVs with huge luggage lockers under the raised rear seating. The Routemasters had to tow luggage trailers. The buses were operated by London Transport on behalf of BEA. KGJ601D was the first of the fleet, but is preserved in its second livery where turquoise has replaced grey.
