Seen at Cobham is former 383 (TCD383J), a 1971 Daimler Fleetline with Northern Counties coachwork converted to a mobile home. Maybe Southdown would have had more such buses had it not fallen into NBC ownership and acquired a fondness for the Bristol RE and VR.

Who knows what the denationalised Southdown might have bought if it had not been snatched up by Stagecoach. This is one of the coach seated Northern Counties bodied Volvo Citybuses bought in 1989 before the Stagecoach takeover. Black Velvet set up a quality operation in the Southampton area. One of its acquisitions is former Southdown and Stagecoach 303 (F303MYJ). Velvet acquired a number of these D10M deckers, this one is seen operating the shuttle service to the Royal Victoria Bus Rally near Southampton in June 2008. |

Tucked away in the West of England Collection at Winkleigh was former 182 (EUF182), originally a 1938 lowbridge Beadle bodied Leyland Titan TD5. Southdown cut it down for use as recovery vehicle 0182. The bus has been restored in Exeter Corporation as 82 but it is not thought to have ever been owned by the them. Picture ref A4 |
