A third VW at Dover. The main reason for the crew transfers at the port is a difference in interpretation of drivers' hours regulations in the UK compared to the continent. Rest taken in the driver's bunk whilst the vehicle is moving is not considered rest in the UK. Thus drivers returning from continental trips have 'run out of hours' and fleets of 'bottom end' drivers are needed to ferry the coaches north from Dover. Either that or the French are allowed to get away with it and we are not - you decide - but something does not add up. |
Northbound on the M1 around Watford Gap and a WA Mercedes minibus rendezvous with members of the first batch of Jonckheere bodied B10Ms. In this instance the minibus was believed to be operating a feeder service. WA also had another fleet of small vehicles, namely milk floats, as baggage transfer vehicles at their Scratchwood Services hub. |
