Another week, another BYD-Alexander Dennis electric Enviro200. This is 501 (MEK801) leaving the Bus Station on Tuesday, one of a trio new to Christchurch's Red Bus, though in four days spent in Christchurch last week, this was the only one seen. Sister electric buses 502 and 503 obviously in hiding and not visible in the city bus depot either. This bus was a regular performer on one of two routes linking the city with the airport and was seen every day. Like the Tauranga examples last week final assembly was by Zhuhai Guangtong in China. The trio are the first full size buses to join the Red Bus fleet since 2012, though seven EVM bodied Mercedes Sprinter sixteen seaters joined the fleet in 2016, preceded by one in 2014.
