Melbourne's Eastern Freeway, the M3, brings bus traffic from the large Doncaster suburb towards the city centre. The express bus services from Doncaster and nearby Park & Ride sites joined the city's SmartBus network of long distance orbital routes. The Doncaster services are currently operated by Transdev Melbourne. Under their care the SmartBus network is losing its identity. No new buses have been delivered in the silver livery but the new buses are being used on the network and inevitably silver buses regularly appear on non-SmartBus routes. The brand included real time bus information displays at major bus stops, though these are looking quite dated nowadays. There are plans to upgrade the freeway service to Doncaster with a dedicated BRT, but orders have not yet been placed.
Racing to the city on Tuesday this week is ten year old Custom CB60 Evo II 944 (7941AO) coming to the end of the freeway near Clifton Hill.
