MTA General Motors TDH-5303 5348
Way back in 1981 it was not the RTS dominating New York's streets but the GMC "New Look Fishbowls", 5348 was of the most popular TDH-5303 design. Passing it is an RTS from one of the independent oprators in the city at the time, mostly on franchised operations, and shortly to be disenfranchised with all services under the MTA white and blue colours.

MTA depot
One of the most popular New York attractions is a ride on the Circle Line Ferry which circumnavigates Manhattan Island. On such a trip in 1981 the boat passed this MTA depot, the yard containing several new GMC RTS buses - they first entered MTA service that year - as well as a number of Fishbowls, some in the centre can be seen looking the worse for wear!

MTA Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot
Forward to July 2008 and Orion VII HEV 6728 is sat outside Mother Clara Hale depot on Malcolm X Boulevard, the Harlem terminus of route M1.

MTA Freightliner Bus Maintenance wagon
On the 8th July 2017 a small gathering of preserved New York buses was displayed on Governors Island, the buses crossing by ferry. This Freighter truck was on hand should there be any mechanical problems, though once on the island the buses were on static display.

MTA Designline EcoSaver IV 1303
An example of what could have been. In 2009 five New Zealand built Designline EcoSaver IV buses entered service with the MTA. These hybrid buses used a Capstone C65 MicroTurbine instead of the more usual diesel engine as the power source and the MTA, and other US operators were interested in this seemingly efficient product, Baltimore took an initial thirteen. A new assembly plant in Charlotte, North Carolina was built, but the whole project was frought with technical and financial difficulties resulting in bankruptcy and MTA cancelled the rest of its intial order for ninety, returning the first five to Designline. Luckily in August 2010, the second of the batch, 1303, was seen heading back to its depot after the afternoon rush hour.
