In 1974 the MTA was having capacity problems on some of its trunk services and arranged to purchase some Leyland Atlanteans on trial. Eight Park Royal bodied examples arrived in 1976 for use on routes M4 and M5. They had some clearance problems and reliability was also an issue and they were withdrawn in 1980. Some found a new life including these examples used by the local Gray Line franchise in Victoria on Vancouver Island seen in August 2004. This is 401, taking on tourists outside the landmark Empress Hotel by the harbour. |

Seen slightly earlier at the same spot was sister Atlantean 407 with the State Legislature Building behind. |
  |
An empty 407. The numbering suggests all eight buses passed to Victoria. |

A rear view of Atlantean 407. The buses were working alongside some 1970 ex Derby Roe bodied Daimler Fleetlines in the same colours which outlived the Atlanteans.

Atlantean 402 was seen earlier in California, on Beach Street, San Francisco, probably in summer 1992, in a different style of Gray Line livery. |
